Barrie joined Biotica in January 2001 and was Director of Natural Products Chemistry before taking on his current role in March 2009. Prior to Biotica he was a research scientist in the Bioprocess research group of GSK (Stevenage UK, 1997-2000). Barrie studied chemistry at the University of Leeds (BSc, 1990; PhD, 1993 with Dr Richard B. Herbert), and this was followed by successive postdoctoral stints in the laboratories of Professors Heinz G. Floss (University of Washington, 1994-95) and Jim Staunton & Peter F. Leadlay (University of Cambridge, 1995-97). His experience spans the breadth of discovery and lead optimisation in natural products chemical biology, and he is (co)author/inventor on over 70 scientific papers and patents.
